Dengue fever
Symptoms may include sudden onset of fever, severe headache, pain behind the eyes, joint and muscle pain, fatigue, nausea, vomiting, and a skin rash.
Eastern equine encephalitis (EEE)
A viral infection that once transmitted, duplicates and multiplies in the lymph nodes near the site of infection before entering into to the bloodstream. From there, it can cross the blood-brain barrier and infect the central nervous system (CNS), leading to inflammation of the brain (encephalitis). Symptoms of EEE typically appear 4 to 10 days after being bitten. Possible symptoms include high fever, headache, stiff neck, nausea, vomiting, confusion, seizures.
Malaria
This disease is a parasitic infection that once matured and replicated inside of the affected host, invade red blood cells. Symptoms may appear within 1-4 weeks of infection and could include fever, chills, sweating, headache, muscle aches, fatigue, nausea, and vomiting. Early diagnosis and prompt treatment are essential for managing malaria and preventing serious complications.
West Nile Virus
This is one of the most common diseases seen after a bite within the United States. Manifestions often include fever, vomiting, headache, body aches, skin rash, or diarrhea.
Zika Virus
Humans are the primary reservoir for this RNA virus. Most individuals may be asymptomatic or have only mild symptoms, if infected. it is important to note that infection during pregnancy can cause serious birth defects and has been associated with other pregnancy problems. This can cause fatigue, generalized muscle and/or joint pain, systemic itching of the skin, headache and fever.
